From August 10, International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test-takers applying through the Student Direct Stream category for Canadian study permits will not need to attain a minimum score of 6.0 bands in all individual sections of the test. The decision was made by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, resulting in critics believe greater opportunities for students worldwide to pursue their educational goals in Canada. Instead, only an overall score of 6 will be required in IELTS Academic starting August 10, 2023.
